Elin:Housing
Some of the text on this page is from the Beta build of the game. |
A key part of Elin is managing My Home, a location the player sets up as a home base for housing.
Housing has several mechanics relating to land ownership, delegating tasks, raising your community, and Crafting.
Hearthstone
The Hearthstone is a mysterious stone placed on a player's land that allows him to store inhabitants in the stone and pull them out on another piece of land, rename that piece of land, and publish that map online.
As the hearthstone levels, more features of housing are slowly unlocked, but the danger level of the home also rises. Hearthstones level individually on a land-by-land basis, and levelling hearthstones in another land the player owns will provide bonuses to all lands based on the type of land held. Growth rate of hearthstones can be adjusted with "Growth Boost" and "Growth Suppression" policies on the home board.
The following table is an example of a hearthstone in Meadow. The maximum number of inhabitants and other values vary depending on the land feats it has.
Level | Admin Points | Population | Danger Level | Build Mode | Other Benefits |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 4 | 6 | 4 | Terrain | |
2 | 9 | 9 | 7 | Relocation | Utility Department Policies |
3 | 14 | 12 | 11 | Clearing | Item Protection |
4 | 19 | 15 | 15 | Mining | 2nd Feat |
5 | 24 | 18 | 21 | Collecting, Recipe | Network(Teleporter will be available, and some land feat will affect all land) |
6 | 29 | 21 | 24 | Free Build | |
7 | 34 | 24 | 27 | 3rd Feat |
The base danger level for land plots is calculated as 4 * (hearthstoneLevel - 1) + distanceFromRoad (steps away from a road tile on the world map).
The danger level is further reduced with Border Patrol policy, -2 for every squared level such as 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, etc. (Example: At 25, border patrol reduces danger by -10.)
Abandoning Land
You can abandon land from your Hearthstone.
When you abandon land, your Hearthstone is destroyed and the Land Deed you were using for that land is returned under your feet.
All the residents and livestock that were living on the land disappear at the moment of abandonment and move to the land set as your Home. Livestock also become residents in their new location.
The terrain, items, and appearance on the World map will be maintained immediately after abandonment, but will all disappear at the time of regeneration.
Land that has been owned for less than a month, or land obtained through the story, cannot be abandoned.
Residents
Recruitment
Many NPCs, including monsters, can be recruited as residents of the player's land through various means.
Residents can be taken around as pets, and because pets always have the property of being registered as residents of the player's land, the method of recruiting residents can be said to be the same as recruiting pets.
For this reason, please refer to the Ally page for specific recruitment methods.
Roles
- Maid
- Expands your land, applies to pay additional taxes to Mysilia, and change the player's title. You can appoint your favorite residents and livestock as a maid.
- Gold bars are used to expand the land, which can be up to 96 km2 in size.
- The gold bars required to expand the land to its maximum are 677 for the Meadow, 505 for Vernis, and 567 for other land.
- There is a separate NPC with the name “Maid”, but this is not related to the maid in this section.
- Livestock
- You can appoint any resident as a livestock or return them as a resident from the resident board/list.
- Consume grass to produce milk and eggs. If the livestock can be sheared, they can also consume grass to recover the sheared hair.
- Production efficiency varies by races.
- Livestock are not counted as residents, but instead cannot do their original jobs and hobbies, cannot be bought and sold, cannot be taken on adventures as pets, and no longer generate requests.
- NPCs that have been turned back into livestock from residents cannot be turned back into livestock again for 10 days.
- Please also refer to the Ranch page.
- Secretary
- Although not strictly a role, the presence of a secretary/elder NPC allows for investment in the town's development
- The size of a store is calculated as “the size of the store itself + the level of development of the land”, so investing in the level of development of the town will raise the size of all the stores in the area.
- Also, there are stores, such as vending machines, that cannot be directly invested in, but for which the level of development of the town has a visible effect.
- If you own multiple plots of land, the level of development is treated individually for each plot of land.
- The Influence Shop has the same selection of goods as in other cities, but the furniture collection tickets are for Mysilia.
Jobs
Each resident of My Home has a primary job which they will try to fulfil if your home has the proper facilities and signboard, and a hobby which they will do on the side.
In addition, it seems that residents who produce something will sell it directly from the shipping box if there is no shared box where they can deliver their products.
Efficiency
The efficiency of the job is variable, depending on the skill level of the residents, the quality and comfort traits of their beds, and the type and material of their bed. Even a poor makeshift bed provides a substantial bonus to their efficiency.
Job efficiency affects both the resident's chance to produce an item, as well as their bonuses to land skills such as Soil.
The Fresh Air land trait adds an extra 20% efficiency to all residents.
Finally, each resident over the maximum population will reduce efficiency by 20%, to a minimum of 0. The Emergency Rations skill can offset this penalty slightly, with diminishing returns. (At 25 Emergency Rations skill, the penalty is reduced to 10% for each excess resident.)
Even residents who do not have the corresponding skills will automatically acquire them when they perform jobs and gain experience. Experience is gained every day so long as the resident is not in your party and is working.
Fixed Jobs and Changing Jobs
Also, some types of NPCs have fixed jobs and hobbies, such as a magician whose job is research, and a farmer whose job is farming and his hobby is tinkering in the fields. If their job and hobbies are not fixed, you can reroll them by using the Whip of love; it can be purchased as you progress through the main quest. Some are selected only for job, some only for hobbies, some for both, and some are possessed only by certain NPCs.

Population
Population is capped for each lot. The current and maximum population can be found on the Home board.
In the land that the player has set as Home, the player is counted as one of the residents.
Pets accompanying the player as companions and residents who have physically left the land due to death or other reasons are also counted.
Unique NPCs, residents transferred to the hearthstone, and livestock are excluded from the resident count.
The act of physically leaving the land, such as going out as a companion or dying, is not a means of exclusion from the count.
When the number of inhabitants exceeds the limit, the inhabitants start slacking off and their work and hobby efficiency is penalized.
The specific penalties are not specified, but in the case of “fishing,” the rate of fish production is reduced, and the success rate of elements that have a probability of success is lowered.
The higher the number of excess people, the heavier the penalty.
In addition, bonuses to land skills like Soil or Natural Generation are reduced by 20% for each resident over the population cap. The Emergency Ration skill reduces this penalty with diminishing returns- at 25 Emergency Ration skill, the penalty is reduced to 10% for each resident over the population cap.
The maximum population is improved by increasing the hearthstone level, and it also varies with land feat.
The penalty can also be mitigated by raising the Home skill of “emergency food” through hobby work such as “farming”.
Migration
If you own two or more plots of land, you can use one of the following methods to move any of your residents to another plot of land.
- Accompany the resident you want to move with you as a companion, and then speak to them on the new plot of land and select “I want you to move to this land”.
- From the Resident Board/Resident List, select “Move to Hearthstone” for the resident you want to move, store them in a Hearthstone, and then “Summon” them from the Hearthstone at the destination.
- The number of people who can be stored in the Hearthstone is determined by the total level of all the Hearthstones in the land.
Building
Buildings
Four walls (or more) and a door!
Build mode
The Build Mode allows you to freely edit your Home using a dedicated UI.
To use this mode you need a “build board” sold by Loytel.
As long as you have the ingredients and facilities, you can save yourself the trouble of crafting, but be aware that you will consume Oren instead of Stamina.
Initially, only terrain can be raised or lowered, but as hearthstones grow and the “Construction” home skill level increases, new features are unlocked. When “Free Build” is eventually unlocked, build mode can be started from the “Build” icon in the lower right corner of the screen, next to the journal, and the build board is no longer required.
Boards
By using signs, you can designate parts of your land to be used for specific purposes.
House Board
Allows the player to change the roof and outward styling of a building.
Room Board
Allows the player to change the specifications of a room, and change the group of rooms and assign a different appearance to adjacent rooms.
You can also set access type for the room.
Public: All NPCs, including guests, can enter the room.
Only Resident: Only residents can enter the room, and guests will no longer be able to enter the room.
Private: Only players can enter the room, and all NPCs, including pets, will no longer be able to enter the room.
Stockpile Sign
Designates a room or a 3 block radius as a stockpile.
Items collected in build mode are transferred to the area.
Fuel Storage Sign
Designates a room or a 3x3 area as a stockpile for fuel for furnaces, kilns, cooking tools, etc. All items in the home will automatically refuel with logs or branches from this area.
Commodity Stockpile Sign
Designates a room or a 3 block radius as a shopping area. Items tagged for sale will replenish with same-category items inside this area. When an item with a sell tag is sold out, items in the same category in this area will be automatically replenished.
Sales Tag
Designates an item on the ground for sale. If inside the area of a Commodity Stockpile, will automatically replenish with items from the same category from boxes in the same area.
Can also be tagged on non-shared containers to sell the items within the container to tourists.
Garbage Dump Sign
Designates a room or a 5x5 area as a stockpile.
- Npcs will use this area to gather and drop trash. They will place trash in the proper sorting bins if they are in radius of this sign.
- The Combustible waste box, Non-combustible waste box and compost box collect waste independently of this signboard
- If the container for the waste you want to throw away is empty, residents will throw it in the container before the waste disposal area
- Even if the waste disposal area and waste containers are in place, littering will not completely disappear. Combining other measures will improve Civility
- The Civility increases according to the "Public Moral" Home skill, and can also be raised by the "Waste Sorting Campaign" policy.
- Residents with “chores” as a hobby collect the litter and put it in the containers
- While the "Strict Anti-Littering Law” policy can be used to put pressure on littering, in the long run, policies that are straight up civil are more effective.
- The Combustible waste box, Non-combustible waste box and compost box collect waste independently of this signboard
Lumberjack Sign
Designates a room or a 4 block radius as a lumber yard.
- Residents with lumberjack jobs or hobbies will move into this area to work. However, they will not be able to actually cut down trees growing in the area, only deliver logs procured from somewhere else as an effect of their work.
Ranch Sign
Designates a room or a 4 block radius as a ranch. Livestock NPCs gather around this area.
Fishing Sign
Designates a room or a 4 block radius as a fishing area.
Farm Sign
Designates a room or a 5x5 area as a farm.
- Residents with farming or earth-moving jobs or hobbies will move into the area to work. However, they will not be able to actually manage the fields in the area, they will only be able to receive bonuses to Home skills as an effect of their work.
- If you have set up a Delegated farming policy, only fields within the area/room designated by this sign will be subject to automatic cultivation & harvesting.
Signpost
Placed at the map edge of a base, a signpost specifies where it will appear when a player enters the home from the direction in which the signpost is placed.
- Only one square at the edge of each direction on the map can be designated; placing a signpost in the center of the base has no effect.
- When used in conjunction with a guidesign, the effect of the guidesign takes precedence over the signpost.
Guide Sign
Designates a room or 3x3 area as the location where a player will appear when entering the home.
- Once this is in place, the player will appear at the location specified by this sign, no matter from which direction you enter the home.
Dining spot sign
Designates a room or a 4 block radius as a the dining hall.
- Residents will dine within this area.
- Eating within this area will slightly increase the dining effect.
Skills & Policies
At the house board, the player can enact many decrees and skills for My Home that apply many various effects. Certain NPCs can effect the level of the skill.
Plans, bought from scholars for Gold Bars, can allow you to learn new skills and policies.
Certain NPC jobs and hobbies affect home skill levels.
You can raise home skill levels at the cost of Gold Bars, at Skill Level +5 bars/level. Innate cap refers to the maximum level that the skill can increase through gold bars alone; it can still be increased further by resident jobs.

Taxes
Taxes are due at the beginning of every month, with a tax bill being mailed to the player. Not paying your taxes in four month gives the player negative karma, and can lead to repercussions.
The amount of tax is the sum of [ base tax + fame tax + voluntary tax ].
The Base Tax is increased according to the number of months elapsed, while the Fame Tax is increased according to the player's fame.
The voluntary tax is a tax that can be paid at the player's discretion. The player can choose not to pay it, but if you do, you will receive gold bars per 1,000 orens as a return gift in proportion to the amount of the tax paid. The amount of voluntary taxes can be changed by asking the maid of My Home or the secretary of the town.
You can change the settings as many times as you like at any time, but you cannot change the amount of additional tax payments for invoices that have already been issued, which will be reflected in the following month or later.
The tax evasion skill of a location will slightly reduce the basic tax and famous tax, respectively, after the tax evasion skill levels of all locations are combined. This does not apply to additional tax payments.
If a location's tax transfer policy is in effect, taxes will be automatically deducted from deposits made with the banker instead of being invoiced.
If the deposit is less than the amount collected, a bill for the full amount will be mailed as usual.
Tax -Free Lands
On non-tax-Free Lands, revenues from lodging, tourism, and residential tax are significantly deducted.
You may designate up to 3 parcels of land as Tax-Free Lands via policies at the Home Board.
Lands designated as Tax-Free will not have a penalty to income from lodging, tourism, and residential tax.
Since there is no tax on shipments and sales, there is no need to transport goods produced in a taxable location to a tax-free location in order to avoid taxation.
Land
You can acquire land by reading the Land deed in a place that does not belong to any faction.
While there is no limit on the number of land acquisitions themselves, this is effectively a limit on the number of land titles possessed, since the price of a land title doubles with each purchase.
In Elona, each property had its own set of uses, but in Elin there is no such classification.
By combining Land Feet, Residents, and Home policies, your land can be used for a variety of purposes.
Please also see our pages on Farming, Ranch, etc.
In addition, relocation deed allow players to move their land to any location.
The terrain and land feats do not change when moving, so things like moving a sea map to the middle of a grassy field are possible.
Land Feats
- Each parcel of land has inherent features that provide bonuses to the home, and also to the network of homes owned by the player.
- As the hearthstone is leveled, the benefits of these features unlock.
- Some of the feats correspond to the networks released at the hearthstone level and affect all the lands in the network. There is a certain degree of regularity in the composition of the feats.
- The first feat is always attached to a terrain type, such as “forest” or “sea”. The type of terrain is determined by its appearance on the global map.
- The second and third slots are randomly assigned to two non-terrain features, but no two non-terrain features with the same name will be selected. Also, some feats are limited to specific terrain.
- Static lands have fixed feats.
- Meadow: Plain, Fertile, Erin's Grace Hill caves: Cave, Ancient Ruin, Erin's Grace Vernis: Hill, Coal, Ancient Ruin
- The feats of unowned land changes with each re-gen
- When you are on land before it is privatized, the map name in the upper left corner of the screen discloses all three of the land's hidden feats!
- You can see all of the feats that are hidden in the land you already own by going to "Location > Land Name > Land Features" in the Journal.
- Some feat are compatible with the network that is released at the hearthstone level, and feats are shared among lands that have opened the network.
