Overview

Faithful and devout, priests bring the belief of their gods to the world. Armed with heavy armor, shields, an array of weapons and their faith, these beacons of holiness are well-equipped to serve the divine, through violence if necessary.

A priest's primary asset is his or her will, which governs spells in the holy domain. They are perhaps one of the most versatile classes, capable of physical and magical combat, as well as performing in a support role.

Strategy

Much like warmages, priests have numerous paths before them: whether to pursue physical combat, magical power, a mixture of both, or standing back and supporting one's allies. Devout increases the stat bonuses that come from worshipping a deity, and that combined with priests' versatility means choice of deity has an outsized impact on what a priest eventually becomes, more than other classes. With equipment spellcasting penalties no longer imposing a hard cap on cast chance, priests can now don heavy armour and equip shields without having to worry about impairing spellcasting, given enough skill.

Priests should start worshipping a god as soon as they are able to reap the benefits; while one can get lucky and find an altar to one's intended deity in the wilderness or a nefia, a trip to the Truce Ground, Aquli Teola, Mifu Village, or Nefu Village is far more reliable and should be undertaken as soon as possible. The longer a character's belief in a deity, the stronger the bonuses he or she receives, so it's recommended to start as early as possible. Changing gods is only necessary if you intend to collect more apostle pets; it is intended that feats and treasures rewarded by gods will not function properly for non-believers.

Once you have worshiped God, make learning the “Model Follower” feat a top priority. This is a feat that automatically performs the daily prayers necessary to train your faith skills, and while you can substitute manual daily prayers in extreme cases, it greatly improves the efficiency of your play, such as when traveling the world map for days at a time. Ideally, a priest should have an altar at home in order to give offerings and train faith. The altar in Palmia's church can be claimed and then thrown to a delivery box, upon which it can be mailed to the player's home.

Priests have access to holy as a domain; this encompasses all healing spells and the bulk of buff and debuff spells, making the priest an excellent support choice. Due to domain mechanics, holy spells cast by priests are more effective.

  • Mifu
  • Nefu
  • Demigod

By and large, all gods are viable choices for a priest. However, there are some notable picks:

  • Opatos is good for priests who prefer to be on the front lines.
  • Itzpalt is good for damage-dealing caster priests.
  • Horome's MP drain is a good choice for a hybrid.
  • Kizuami caters to priests who prefer to play a support role.
