You may be wondering once you encountered this page, "Crafting Secrets"? Isn't Elin crafting pretty straight forward?

The answer is no.

Either intentional, a bug, or an oversight, there are "crafting secrets" in this game and I am here to discuss it with you, as you actually bothered to check this page:

MATERIAL CONVERSION

Yes, you read that right. Material Conversion. There is a way to convert certain types of material to a different types of items: From Stone to Logs, Metal to Bone, and other conversion if you are experimental enough.

And this can all be done by simply DISMANTLING an item with a hammer:

  1. For Stone to Log Conversion
    • Let's just say you have 1 Cut Stone made of X Material, if you turn that into a Statue, then dismantle the statue, then you will get a Log made out of X Material.
    • This leads to different possibilities like logs made of stone or metal materials, or logs made of raw food (since you can also use corpses to make statues)
    • This allows you to efficiently create wood furniture/items/pillars/structures from non-wood materials
    • Also, as you can cut a log into 2 planks, this just adds more uses to it
  2. For Metal to Bone Conversion
    • Simply make a nail out of any metal material, then dismantle it.
    • The resulting byproduct will always be a bone
    • Now you might be wondering, "WHY THE HELL WOULD I WASTE INGOTS FOR THAT!?".
    • Don't bother with ingots, use scrap
    • Then once you get bones made from scrap metal, you can then use that bone to make bait
    • From useless metal to useful bait for fishing
    • Now you finally have a reason why you should mine out the metal walls of one of those Nefias
  3. For Metal/Gem to Stone Conversion
    • Go make a woodcutter's axe out of any ingot/gem, then once you dismantle it, the byproduct will be a stone with the same material you as the ingot/gem
    • Generally, any item categorized as a "Tool", when dismantled, results to Stone
    • This allows you to efficiently create stone furniture/items/pillars/structures that would otherwise be too expensive
    • Remember that you can turn 1 Stone into 2 Cut Stone

There are also other combinations that I won't disclose as just sharing everything to you would be just be too much spoon-feeding.

But now that you get the general picture, you might be wondering, why bother with these material conversions? Check the next segment.

MATERIAL DUPLICATION (THE COINTOSS SYSTEM)

DUPES!? THIS IS CHEATING!?

Sorta. But it's not guaranteed. It's a 50-50, honestly:

  1. You know how you can turn 1 Stone into 2 Cut Stone, or 1 Log into 2 Planks?
  2. Well, did you know that if you dismantle 1 Cut Stone or 1 Plank, there is a 50-50 chance for it to turn back to a regular stone or log
  3. If you are willing to gamble, this means that if you succeed, you not only get back the 1 Stone you just used, but get an extra 1 Cut Stone
  4. So yeah, it's a Coin Toss (for those who don't save scum, that is)

Now imagine this, Material Conversion + Material Duplication (Save Scum Version) = Unlimited Rare Resources

I won't justify the morality of utilizing this, but if you don't save scum, then you are essentially attempting to gamble rare resources for more rare resources.

I mean, wouldn't you want to have a good source for Ether Statues?

GACHA JUNK DISMANTLING

So there really are uses for those copper coins you have been picking up.

Junk Items from Gacha are actually one of the prime source of rare/unobtainable items.

From stones made of water/cloth/food, to textiles made of non-cloth materials. Actual Dark Matter (although it can't be dismantled for now)

They are treasure hidden in plain sight and commonly overlooked.

MATERIALS FROM DISARMING TRAPS

If you are able to disarm traps, you will notice that it will sometimes produce unusual items.

KEEP THOSE, ESPECIALLY PAPER INGOTS!

Why? Refer back to Material Conversion. But in case you still don't understand:

  1. Step 1: Turn Paper Ingot to Paper Woodcutter's Axe
  2. Step 2: Dismantle Paper Woodcutter's Axe to get Paper Stone (YOU CAN MAKE PAPER FURNITURE WITH THESE!)
  3. Step 3: Turn Paper Stone to 2 Paper Cut Stone
  4. Step 4: Turn Paper Cut Stone to Paper Statue
  5. Step 5: Dismantle Paper Statue to get Paper Log (YOU CAN MAKE MORE PAPER FURNITURE WITH THESE, INCLUDING BEDS!)

Now you can carry an entire base worth of the lightest furniture and containers in your portable (hopefully paper) Tent.

DEAD FISH JUNK TREASURE

Ever encountered the Dead Fish junk item that is made of Raw Food?

DON'T WASTE IT!

This is precious and can be a good source of fertilizer:

  1. Step 1: Dismantle Dead Fish to get Raw Food Stone
  2. Step 2: Turn Raw Food Stone to 2 Raw Food Cut Stone
  3. Step 3: Craft 40 Raw Food Arrows with Raw Food Cut Stone (take note that you have 2 of these)
  4. Step 3.5: Put 39 Raw Food Arrows in Compost Box to get 39 Fertilizer
  5. Step 4: Give Raw Food Arrow to Kettle (for alchemic duplication as he will only accept items you crafted)
  6. Step 5: Buy Duplicated Raw Food Arrow to Kettle, then put arrows in Compost Box to rot

So instead of just getting 1 Fertilizer for a Dead Fish, you are actually getting 80 Fertilizer + a continuously replenishing source if you give it to Kettle.

For those "who know", there is a Step 7 onwards, but I'd prefer that those who explore the game's crafting further to discover that instead, unless someone's generous enough to talk about it.
