The detector is a craftable item that when held in hand will search the map for the search term entered when 'used'.

Specification

If there is no item on the map that it is looking for, it will play a sound as if communication has been lost. If it detects an item, it plays beeps that depends on the distance from the player; the closer to the detected item, the higher and shorter the sound will be.

In the current version the green light on the detector does not switch colors.

Every few turns the detector will perform another search if held in hand. You can only set 1 term at a time.

The name of the item to be detected must be specified precisely, but it can be found by partial matching. If multiple items are applicable, it will respond to all of them. Basically any string of characters in the target name can be used, including symbols such as "★" as well as the number of stacks, prefixes, weapon dice values, etc. It will also respond to characters such those used in the name of the item. Unappraised items will only detect indeterminate names.

The detection targets are items that are dropped or furnished on the map. It does not react to NPCs and their items, items in containers, harvestable objects such as veins of ore, or treasure chests on treasure maps. Shrines, stairs, and invisible traps/small medals can also be searched for with the detector.

Keep in mind, that you can [CTRL] + [F] search items on the map as well.
