Hardness isn't actually the only factor in a tool's strength. Comparing performance of an iron and onyx pick will confirm that. Weight might be related, or it's going off the damage the material would cause with a weapon. Perhaps I'll make a set of different picks and compare them all against some ores to get some better data.

The numbers on the tables seem odd to me, and should probably be replaced with specific materials instead of hardness numbers, since I suggest using common materials that make a good pick, like granite, slate, basalt, onyx, iron, steel, etc. No need to include straw and such, even if you can make ingots out of anything.

I wasn't tracking while I hit other milestones, but when I found meteorite I was just on the cusp of mining it so I got it dialed in and figured it would be helpful to know: A blessed steel pickaxe cannot mine meteorite ore in a wall at 55 mining, but it can at 58, confirmed by swapping a piece of equipment with a skill bonus.
