Tourists experience increased costs of about 200% - despite the description, the increased prices do not merely apply to shops, but all expenditures. Paying for appraisal, ordering a meal at an inn, investing, and even paying tax - anything that costs money has a tourist paying double. In exchange, shop inventories are expanded by about 5 levels' worth of investment - hardly a good tradeoff.

Overview

The tourist is a class intended for players to challenge themselves with. Neither trained in martial combat, nor arcane arts, practical trades or even particular skills, tourists are woefully unprepared for the dangers of Ylva. Still, it's possible they'll make capable adventurers out of themselves given enough time, if only because the weak are quickly weeded out.

Strategy

The tourist possesses few useful skills. Swimming has the effect of allowing the swimmer to move long periods of time on underwater tiles without drowning, but it has little practical use. Fishing has some small use as higher skill levels can bring in rare items like small medals. Travel has limited use when even random encounters on the overworld are liable to kill you. With little survivability, an early-game tourist is dependent on allies to survive.

Suggested Races

  • Snail. Since anyone playing a tourist is clearly doing it for the challenge, one might as well go all-in and play a snail.

Suggested Gods

  • Eyth is the god of choice for as much difficulty as can be inflicted upon a poor tourist.
  • For tourists who do not limit their worship, Kizuami is recommend. His artifact prohibits the player from dealing damage, but it is not a significant loss for the impotent tourist.
  • For snail tourists who do not limit their worship, Lulwy is another choice. She supplements your speed a little and grants bonuses to bows, crossbows, and evasion.

Starting Equipment

  • 6 bandages
