(Experimental) Vampires have long been feared as rulers of the night, gifted with both exceptional physical prowess and keen intellect. They display extraordinary abilities under the cover of darkness, yet remain vulnerable to sunlight and flame. Unable to sustain themselves on ordinary food, they are ever in hunger for fresh, living blood.

Overview

A nocturnal race whose primary sustenance is the living blood. Vampires are famously described in various regional folklore and literature as having numerous weaknesses, but in Ylva, their weaknesses are holy power, fire, and sunlight.

Characteristics

Vampirism

Vampirism buff rapidly increases all main attributes, Life, Mana, Speed, Meditation and Regeneration at night(from 5PM to 5AM), while you lose those bonuses at day.

Life, Mana and Speed are capped at +20, the remaining stats are capped at ≈14% (1/7) of stat base value + 5 .
e.g. with 140 base Magic you can only get up to (140/7 + 5) = +25 bonus Magic from Vampirism.

Ashborn

If a vampire is exposed to sunlight or similar light (such as light from a sun- table lamp) for a while, it will burst into flames and ultimately die.

Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you start the game not in a Meadow, but in a hill cave where no sunlight reaches.

In addition, if a Vampire sleeps in an area that is considered to be sunlit, they will wake up to a nasty surprise.

They won't recover any stamina (it will still be set to 1 if negative), their MP (if positive) and HP will be set to 0; and they will be afflicted with burning.

There's multiple ways to prevent this such as: not sleeping in sunlit areas, have an equipment with immunity to sunburn, be in bat form for sunburn immunity or sleep in a coffin bed. The coffin bed is currently the only type of bed who protects vampires from sunlight.

Blood Meal

Human food is unsuitable for vampires. The only things they can properly consume are the living blood of creatures or foods with the 【Blood Meal】 trait.

If Vampires eat something without 【Blood Meal】 they will instead get a huge nutrition penalty. (90% less nutrition). They get food effect bonus from dishes containing 【Blood Meal】.

Every internal Blood Meal level gives +0.1 multiplier, with Ketchup having x1.1, Blood pack x2.0 and drinking blood with Blood Suck having x2.5.

Blood Pack is a dish with the 【Blood Meal】 trait, and vampires start the game with this recipe.

Abilities

Bat Transformation

The player transforms into a bat, gaining Speed +60, Stealth +30, Perfect Evasion +65, Vitality -90%, Mana -50%, All Damage -50%, Levitation, and Sunburn Immunity.

Using Bat Transformation allows activity during daylight hours and makes it easier to hide and suck blood. But maximum HP is significantly reduced, and damage dealt by vampires is halved while transformed. Perfect Evasion lets you dodge most physical attacks, but you remain helplessly vulnerable to unlucky hits or guaranteed-hit magical attacks. Also be cautious of damage from weight overload, mana overflow, and exhaustion.

The Bat Transformation state can be canceled by using the ability again or by clicking the status icon on the left side of the screen.

  • Bat Transformation incurs a 20-turn cooldown each time it is used. The Bat Transformation state cannot be canceled during the cooldown period.
  • The Bat Transformation state does not end automatically after a set number of turns. It can be canceled by using the ability again or by clicking the status icon on the left side of the screen.
  • Canceling the Bat Transformation state restores the HP that was reduced during the transformation.

Blood Suck

Over several turns, it drains the living blood from adjacent characters. Successful bloodsucking grants a meal effect and nutrition corresponding to the blood's flavor (food name).

The blood's flavor is fixed for each character, and higher levels increase the chance of obtaining higher-quality blood. By finding those with good blood, vampires can grow efficiently.

Characters whose blood is drained are inflicted with the Bleeding status and have a chance to also receive Confusion/Daze/Paralysis/Madness. The more hungry the vampire is, the more blood is sucked, causing greater bleeding. Conversely, when the vampire is full, sucking blood causes almost no bleeding.

Vampirism in towns is treated as a criminal act. Like theft, if the victim or nearby residents witness the blood drain, they become hostile and summon guards.

Additionally, you cannot draw blood from characters with Cut Resistance, such as machines.

  • The meal effect during bloodsucking gradually increases based on the Bloodsucking ability level and the attribute used for learning. (2.5x to 8x)
  • When hovering over a character, the taste of blood appears next to their name. (Displays high meal traits. Increases to 2 at vampirism ability level 15, and 3 at level 30)
  • You can collect a character's blood using the Syringe of Blood Draw sold by 『Farris』 to check the taste of their blood. The blood drawn is strictly for ampoules and is not for consumption.

Suggested Classes

Vampires' high life and mana is universally useful, and bloodsucking accelerates stat growth. It can be said to be suitable for all classes.

Avoiding sunlight, they can challenge Nefia as a Warrior, Mage, or Thief; choose a multiclass path like Warmage; or, like a Pianist, leverage your Charisma to increase allies (and thus blood sources). The playstyle options available to vampires are extensive.

Lore and Trivia

  • Being undead, vampires do not gain madness points from eating human flesh. Instead, the chance of gaining the cannibalism feat is reduced.
