Certain materials have different properties which effect different tools, equipment, and items in differing ways. Materials can be changed with shrine and statues.

Material Chart

  • Italics indicate materials that are difficult to craft tools such as pickaxes, etc., because obtaining stones and ingots requires special methods such as dismantling items.
  • The hardness of materials affects tool performance (capacity, work speed, and what materials tools can harvest). For details, refer to the Tools and Mining pages.
  • The tier of materials is used for various behind the scenes calculations, such as material hammer material selection (when applicable). Generally higher tier means higher level requirement to spawn.
  • The material quality is the basis for the selling price and performance of the items, and the [Quality] item trait has the effect of multiplying these values by a certain factor.
  • Equipment that does not have a craft recipe will drop different items when dismantled with a hammer, depending on the material, which will be the “Dismantled” item in the table below.

Enhancement of Material Effects

All items with an enchantment level gets its material enchantment value boosted by 10% per +1.

This enhancement occurs not only with equipment but also with crop improvements through breeding. This is the reason farming crops Nutrition goes up when the crops enchantment level increases.

  • The game uses integers it's rounded down.
  • When the enhancement value is negative, the material effect decreases by 10% per -1.
  • This affects nearly all material enchantments except negative ones like Copper's negative Lightning Resistance.
    • Ether's Accelerate Ether varies depending on its enhancement value.
  • A few enchantments, Comfort, Rarity, Appearance, and Air, instead gain +1 level per item enhancement, capped at Lv. 7.

Example 1: The Great Armor +4 is made of Emerald, which gives Nerve Res +3 as its material enchantment.

Therefore, the material enchantment is 3 * 1.4 = 4.2, which is rounded down to 4. So the Great Armor +4 will have Nerve Res +4.

Example 2: The cabbochi +20 made of Raw Food

The cabbochi has 17 base Nutrition, and Raw Food gives +3 Nutrition as its material enchantment. In total, the cabbochi starts with 20 Nutrition.

The Raw Food boosted Nutrition enchantment is 3 * 3.0 = 9.0, so a cabocchi +20 will have 17 + 9 = 26 Nutrition.

Scrolls of Change Material (Alpha Only)

Scrolls of change/ inferior/ Greater change material were only present in the alpha version and have now been removed.
