The snail is a notably sluggish creature. Fragile, weak, clumsy and devoid of learning aptitude, they can be dissolved by salt.

Overview

Sentient gastropods. Slow and weak as one can be, preyed on even by putits, easily slain by a pinch of salt. One has to wonder how they manage to survive at all in Ylva, let alone become adventurers. Still, if there's something to say about snails is that they're nothing if not tenacious.

The only reason to play a snail is for the challenge - they start with terrible stats and potentials, almost no equipment slots, abysmal speed, and no useful racial feats.

Riding can compensate somewhat for a snail's speed, and a snail can take advantage of ether diseases which give bonuses and make equipment slots unusable, equipment slots they don't have anyway. Allies and summons can fight in a snail's stead.

Contact with potions of salt solution will deal %-based damage to a snail; about two will be enough to kill. The situation is now worse than in Elona - now, not just cleaners, but any NPC with cleaning as a job will salt snails. Anyone could toss salt at you, it's just that cleaners and maids are guaranteed to have cleaning as a job.

Suggested Classes

  • Tourist. Since anyone playing a snail is clearly doing it for the challenge, one might as well go all-out and pick tourist for as much difficulty as possible.

Lore and Trivia

  • Hatred of snails is a running joke in the game, starting from the ASMR at the end of the reveal trailer, to the snail-salting behaviour of the people of Ylva and finally, the snail torture club in the Fortune Bell.
  • Snails are not humans, so eating human flesh does not increase their insanity or risk gaining the cannibalism feat. Conversely, eating snail flesh or meals made with it counts as cannibalism.
