I guess... the way I see it, my journey in Elin parallels that of Mesherada's in some ways, but also differs enough to set up a nice contrast. Whereas mine is a bit more vague and undefined and I'm kind of just doing whatever in Ylva (whether that's diving in Nefias, farming, performing at parties, etc.), hers is a lot more concrete: it's a defined and unyielding quest to search for her "Hathaway".

By the way, quick off-topic note, but it even had to be clarified by Noa in update '''EA 23.48 (Nightly)''' on 12/04/24. "Hathaway" isn't so much a person as it is a "role". I really liked Noa's analogy that he used, but you know Beatrice from Re:Zero and how she's always waiting for "that person"? And eventually, Subaru, well, simultaneously rejects that idea and becomes "her person"? It's kind of like that. I mean, think about it. In the game, there's only the single player character, right? So the player character ''has'' to be Mesherada's "Hathaway". I think that was the idea I wanted to get across, where the player's the one who fulfills that fated connection. That... vow made many, many lifetimes ago with her. (Except a lot of people didn't catch onto that, so Noa had to release an update changing some of her dialogue to make that more clear lol.)

In any case, I also view the reunion as a certainty, an inevitability.

As much as my journey (well, and I guess yours too, dear reader) and hers may be misaligned at times with the both of us having different focuses and goals at various times (in my case anyway, with me doing all the random Elin things like I mentioned earlier; in contrast, her journey, her purpose, and her goal—her raison d'être—has always been the same), it ''does'' perfectly line up in the end. It ''will'', rather. The reunion is destined, and she is waiting for that fated moment as much as you, the player, are. Except while Mesherada doesn’t know yet that the player is the one she’s searching for yet, the player themselves may not even remember the vow at all. But as you journey across Ylva, maybe you'll encounter her in a town one day. And you'll talk to her, and then you'll recruit her. And then, that's the reunion right there.

She's a steadfast adventurer who's been journeying and searching across many lifetimes for her love, Hathaway. To fulfill their promise they made a long, long time ago. And you'll hopefully fulfill her promise and help her end her search by being her "that person". I think she's more than just a companion in the game; she herself is a story of hope, loyalty, and the promise of a long-awaited reunion.

That unyielding devotion to her search and eternal love can't be overstated enough. :( And you'll hopefully fulfill her promise and help her end her search by being her "that person". When I came up with Mesherada, I wanted her to be someone who feels... alive, at least as much as possible in Elin. Someone players could connect with, see themselves journeying with, and make a part of their journey. I hope you take good care of her and explore Ylva with her!

“I'm always searching, searching for... something?

...

No—for someone.

But one thing is for certain. When we see each other, we'll know. And we'll surely reunite one day. That was our promise to each other, after all.”

- Adams "Hathaway Mesherada" Trinh

About

Hello! I'm the backer who wished for the adventurer 「Mesherada」 and her weapon, 《Hathaway's Dagger》. If I was an adventurer, I think the above quote is what I would say. It'd be like, my "character introduction" quote y'know? The little blurb that you'd read to get a sense of the character, their personality, and their motivations and all that.

I guess... the way I see it, my journey in Elin parallels that of Mesherada's in some ways, but also differs enough to set up a nice contrast. Whereas mine is a bit more vague and undefined and I'm kind of just doing whatever in Ylva (whether that's diving in Nefias, farming, performing at parties, etc.), hers is a lot more concrete: it's a defined and unyielding quest to search for her "Hathaway".

By the way, quick off-topic note, but it even had to be clarified by Noa in update EA 23.48 (Nightly) on 12/04/24. In the game, there's only you, the single player character, right? So the player character has to be Mesherada's "Hathaway".

"And we'll surely reunite one day."

As much as my journey (and yours too) and hers may be misaligned at times with the both of us having different focuses and goals at various times (in my case anyway, with me doing all the random Elin things like I mentioned earlier; in contrast, her journey, her purpose, and her goal—her raison d'être—has always been the same), it does perfectly line up in the end. It will, rather. The reunion is destined, and she is waiting for that fated moment as much as you, the player, are. Except while Mesherada doesn’t know yet that the player is the one she’s searching for, the player themselves may not even remember the vow at all. But as you journey across Ylva, maybe you'll encounter her in a town one day. And you'll talk to her, and then you'll recruit her. And then, that's the reunion right there.
